☐ Open Air Learning is seeking a passionate, self-motivated, nature-loving part-time educator to join our team. This team-teaching position is for approximately 6 instructional hours per week.  

☐ We would love to receive your application if you envision joining our team and working completely outdoors in all weather conditions.

Overview

☐  Open Air Learning offers play-based, place-based, child-led, outdoor forest school programs for children 3 – 13 as well as teen adventure/outdoor survival groups for 13+.  

☐  We follow a September to June school calendar, offering fall, winter and spring programs. Our programs are delivered in various locations around Nanaimo, BC.  

Qualifications

☐  Must have experience working with children in outdoor environments.  

☐  Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

 Must have reliable transportation.

☐  Current First-Aid certificate

☐  Must have a Clear Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector check. 

☐  Can oversee groups of children and have strong risk management skills.

☐  Completion of the Forest and Nature School practitioner course is a strong asset but not required.  

RESPONSIBILITIES

☐  Alongside co-teacher, plan and implement a child-led program.  Be conscious of your involvement during free-play times and intervene when appropriate.

☐  Ensure the safety of all children during their forest play.

☐  Support the benefits of risk-taking, movement and physical development.

☐  Maintain a positive attitude regardless of the weather and be physically able to carry out facilitating duties in all types of terrain.
