Outdoor Learning & Enrichment  Pod Part-Time Educator

As we expand our programming, we’re looking for an educator to join our team in a part-time role.

This is more than a traditional teaching position.

At Open Air, learning happens through experience. It looks like building, exploring, questioning, moving, and testing ideas in real time. Children are challenged, supported, and given space to think for themselves. Our programs blend outdoor exploration with meaningful, hands-on learning that connects to the world around them.

We’re looking for an educator who sees learning this way too.

Who This Role Is For

This role is a strong fit for an educator who:

• Brings a background in education, child development, or a related field
• Is comfortable stepping outside the box and moving beyond worksheet-driven learning
• Can meet children in their ideas and extend their thinking in meaningful ways
• Values time outdoors as an essential part of learning, not a break from it
• Understands how to balance guidance with freedom, structure with movement, and intention with play
• Is confident working in changing environments and adapting in real time

What You’ll Be Doing

• Co-planning and facilitating engaging, hands-on learning experiences alongside a co-educator
• Supporting child-led inquiry while knowing when to guide, extend, and challenge thinking
• Creating an environment where children feel safe, capable, and valued
• Supporting movement, appropriate risk-taking, and confidence-building
• Supervising and managing groups with a strong awareness of safety and group dynamics
• Showing up prepared, adaptable, and ready to engage in all weather conditions

Requirements

• Experience working with children in dynamic or outdoor settings
• Background in education, child development, or similar
• Strong group management and risk awareness skills
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather
• Reliable transportation
• Current First Aid certification
• Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector

Forest and Nature School Practitioner certification is an asset, but not required.

Details

Part-Time • Approximately 6 – 12 instructional hours per week

Wage dependant on experience.
