Summer Drop-In Program Lead

As we expand our summer programming, we are looking for a Summer Drop-In Program Lead to join our team in a seasonal role.
This role is more than simply supervising children.
At Open Air Learning, summer programs are active, engaging, and full of opportunities for children to build friendships, try new things, get creative, and explore the world around them. Programs may include games, crafts, outdoor play, science activities, group challenges, imaginative play, and hands-on projects.
We are looking for someone who enjoys working with children, brings positive energy to a group, and can help create a fun, safe, and welcoming environment.

- Enjoys working with children ages 3 – 12
- Is energetic, positive, and comfortable leading groups
- Can create an environment where children feel included, safe, and supported
- Is confident managing transitions, group behaviour, and busy program days
- Enjoys hands-on activities, games, crafts, and creative projects
- Is comfortable working both indoors and outdoors
- Can adapt in real time and think on their feet
- Works well as part of a team and is willing to jump in where needed
What You’ll Be Doing
- Assisting in planning, preparing, and leading activities for children ages 4 – 12
- Supervising participants during indoor and outdoor recreation programs
- Supporting daily routines including sign-in, transitions, snack and lunch breaks, and end-of-day wrap-up
- Helping create a positive, inclusive, and safe environment for all participants
- Modelling teamwork, respectful communication, and appropriate behaviour
- Organizing activity materials, equipment, and program spaces
- Assisting with setup and takedown before and after programs
- Helping maintain clean, safe, and organized recreation environments
- Attending local markets and community events to support outreach and promotion
- Speaking with families and community members about programs
- Capturing photos and short videos of activities, with permission
- Assisting with simple social media posts and online engagement
- Supporting attendance tracking, activity kit preparation, and general program organization
Requirements
- Experience working with children in recreational, educational, camp, or group settings
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to lead activities and support groups of children
- Comfortable working in active indoor and outdoor environments
- Reliable transportation
- Current First Aid certification
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
Experience with recreation, camps, youth programs, social media, or event support is an asset, but not required.

Seasonal • Summer 2026
35 hours per/week
$19.00 pr/hr
Note: Applicants must be eligible for the Canada Summer Jobs program. In general, applicants must be between 15 and 30 years old, legally entitled to work in Canada, and have a valid Social Insurance Number. International students are not eligible unless they are also Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or have refugee status.
